Guatemalan Goodies!!

A friend of my mom's spent her winter holiday in Guatemala, and she brought home the cutest little dollies! They're handmade. There were 4 dolls, a cat, and a horse. Here are the dollies:

Quinn was over at my house when we got the dollies, and after homework (math for me, and reading for her... her mom wants a book report by Friday) we got to play with them. We each picked our favorite right away.

I like unique toys like that. Especially things from far away places!

Homework misadventures.

I've been having trouble doing my homework. Keeping my concentration up. But it's sooo boring! Can you really blame me? I'm only human!

Want the full story? Here's the album!

And... just as a point of interest...

School takes up too much time. I'd really love to just be able to read comics, hang out with Quinn, and write. *sigh* Some day I will have the life of leisure I deserve...

Another Dark Day.

After what has been an amazing winter break, tomorrow morning I have to go back to school. Quinn is so lucky she’s homeschooled. She doesn’t have to deal with all the other girls being snotty and pretending to like you when they’re really talking behind your back. Last year one of the girls in my Girl Scout troop pretended to be my really good friend when in actuality she and her real friends would just laugh at me when I wasn’t around. One of the other girls heard the whole thing and told me all about it. And the kids at school aren’t much better. Most of the girls don’t like me because I don’t like Hannah Montana and all that stuff and I’d rather read a comic book than Clique Girlz or some of that stuff. The boys don’t like me because I’m a girl and I have dolls and everything. Sometimes I feel like I can't win with anyone... even my own sisters don't like me! But I don't really like them either, so whatever. I’m just glad I have Quinn. And of course Krypto – he’s my bunny.

Tomorrow won’t be fun, but after school, clarinet lessons, and homework, Quinn is coming over and my mom is gonna make us ice cream sundaes. Mom told my sisters they could have some with us too, but apparently they’re both on a diet. (God, strike me down before I become a teenage girl!)

Well, anyways I better go. I have a couple of things left to do before bed.

Until next time,

My friend Quinn.

Quinn is my best friend. I never thought I'd be able to say that about anyone, but it's true. See, Quinn and I met online and bonded pretty quickly over the fact that neither of us has a lot of friends. Quinn is homeschooled, so the only person she has to play with is her brother Ben. And he's at that age where he hates girls... so it isn't any fun for her at all. So, like I said, we met online and didn't even realize that we lived just a few streets apart until we had been online friends for 5 or 6 months. Isn't that something?

Well, we decided that since we lived so close to one another we should hang out sometime. So I, like the well behaved young lady I am, went to my parents to ask permission to go meet her and they said I wasn't allowed since we had met online and I had no way to know if she was really a little girl or if she was some filthy old man. I mean, I really appreciate having my folks look out for me, but this was pretty ridiculous! I mean, I would have known if she had been a big phony. I'm really intuitive. (That is the word I'm thinking of, right?)

So this is the point where I had to take matters into my own hands. I know how my parents want me to read more real books and less comics, so I told them I was walking to Barnes and Noble, which is only a block from our house. Mom of course let me go... but somehow I ended up at Quinn's house. We played for a long time at her house. We talked about everything under the sun, and I brought Molly along so she could see her in person. Her mom was at work and her awesome aunt Linda watched us and Ben. But when her mom got home and saw me she figured out what we had done and she took me home. I wanted to walk so my parents wouldn't catch on, but she drove me. (Trust me, it was a short but awkward ride.) And when we got there, she marched me and Quinn to the doorstep, rung the bell, and the parents all had a long talk about us. That was awkward too, as we both sat there, scared to say anything for fear we'd get in more trouble.

But here's the good news: now that my mom and dad know Quinn and her mom, they said I'm allowed to play with her, and she can come over my house and I can go over hers! I'm so excited. I've never had a real friend like this before… not since I was way little anyways. The best thing is how much fun we can have just doing nothing. That's the best, right?

But there's some bad news too. It's true I have a best friend now, but I'm grounded for the next week for sneaking out! No leaving the house, no phone, and no computer. I snuck on to type this (thank goodness for laptops!). If my mom hears me typing (or if the twins hear me and snitch) I'm fried. Wish me luck!

Injustice.

At dinner tonight I got in trouble for hitting my sister Bethany at the table. I know that makes me sound bad, but I swear I have a good excuse. See, I'm a vegetarian and I have been since I was 5 and I spent a week with my friend Judith from Hebrew school. Her whole family was vegetarian and it rubbed off on me. (And in case you were wondering, I don't get to see Judith anymore because her parents moved the family to Florida.) Well, anyways, we were having dinner and my mom made baked chicken for everyone and a baked chicken substitue for me. Well, Beth and Sarah got to the table before me, and while my parents weren't looking they switched my plate with Beth's! I came to dinner and when we started eating, I took one bite and knew what happened.

I freaked out. I screamed. My mom got mad at me for making a commotion. My dad switched our plates and said no harm was done and I shouldn't overreact to a prank. I wanted to cry. Then, when Beth called me stupid for making such a big deal and said I should eat meat like a normal person, I got a little angry and slugged her. I know I shouldn't fight, but she made me so angry! Then Sarah dumped her diet coke on my plate and mom made us all go upstairs and we didn't get dinner. The twins got grounded for next weekend and I got my whole comic book collection taken away for next weekend. I'm gonna hate not having any of my favorites to read, but at least I'll have the pleasure of knowing the twins won't get to go out next saturday.

The Basics

Hi to anyone who may be reading this! You might have guessed this already, but I'm Wendy, or Wendy Madelyn Stein if I'm being scolded. I wasn't sure of the best way to introduce myself to this whole blogging world (blogiverse? blogisphere? note to self: look up both of those words), so I decided just to ramble off about myself a bit. But because lists make things seem organized, which my thoughts definitely are not, I will use a list to do that. Lists are lovely, don'tcha think? =)

1. As I mentioned, my name is Wendy Madelyn Stein. I also have a Hebrew name, but the Latin alphabet does it no justice, so it shall go unmentioned.

2. Maybe the line about the Hebrew name tiped you off, but I'm Jewish. My whole family is actually.

3. I'm adopted. And no, I don't really wonder about my birth parents. I love my mom and dad, even if they do bug me from time to time.

4. I have 2 older sisters. They're 16 year old twins named Bethany and Sarah, or as I call them, Selma and Patty. The nicest word I can use to describe them is annoying. My parents are always reminding me of how they'll be off to college soon enough and I should cherish what could be our last years in the same house, but I'm honestly counting the days. And I doubt either of them will get in to any schools anyways. *sigh*

5. I love comic books, especially Superman.

6. I play the clarinet in my school band. I only do it because my parents make me. I wanted to play the cowbell, but they thought it would be a little tedious.... which, funnily enough, is how I feel about clarinet.

7. I'm a Girl Scout. It's alright... pretty fun sometimes... but I'd like it more if I had some friends in my troop.

8. I'm not a girly girl... but I don't mind the occassional skirt or dress. Just not on a regular basis!

9. I have an American Girl Molly doll. I haven't had her too long just yet, but she's honestly my favorite Hannukah present ever.

10. I couldn't think of a tenth thing, but stopping at 9 seemed kinda silly. =P

So that's me, I guess. I'll be updating my blog soon and I hope I meet other people with blogs I can read too! I doubt I'll be posting here everyday, but I'll write as regularly as I can.

Until next time,
Wendy (Angela Moira Darling) Stein XOXO
