My friend Quinn.

Quinn is my best friend. I never thought I'd be able to say that about anyone, but it's true. See, Quinn and I met online and bonded pretty quickly over the fact that neither of us has a lot of friends. Quinn is homeschooled, so the only person she has to play with is her brother Ben. And he's at that age where he hates girls... so it isn't any fun for her at all. So, like I said, we met online and didn't even realize that we lived just a few streets apart until we had been online friends for 5 or 6 months. Isn't that something?

Well, we decided that since we lived so close to one another we should hang out sometime. So I, like the well behaved young lady I am, went to my parents to ask permission to go meet her and they said I wasn't allowed since we had met online and I had no way to know if she was really a little girl or if she was some filthy old man. I mean, I really appreciate having my folks look out for me, but this was pretty ridiculous! I mean, I would have known if she had been a big phony. I'm really intuitive. (That is the word I'm thinking of, right?)

So this is the point where I had to take matters into my own hands. I know how my parents want me to read more real books and less comics, so I told them I was walking to Barnes and Noble, which is only a block from our house. Mom of course let me go... but somehow I ended up at Quinn's house. We played for a long time at her house. We talked about everything under the sun, and I brought Molly along so she could see her in person. Her mom was at work and her awesome aunt Linda watched us and Ben. But when her mom got home and saw me she figured out what we had done and she took me home. I wanted to walk so my parents wouldn't catch on, but she drove me. (Trust me, it was a short but awkward ride.) And when we got there, she marched me and Quinn to the doorstep, rung the bell, and the parents all had a long talk about us. That was awkward too, as we both sat there, scared to say anything for fear we'd get in more trouble.

But here's the good news: now that my mom and dad know Quinn and her mom, they said I'm allowed to play with her, and she can come over my house and I can go over hers! I'm so excited. I've never had a real friend like this before… not since I was way little anyways. The best thing is how much fun we can have just doing nothing. That's the best, right?

But there's some bad news too. It's true I have a best friend now, but I'm grounded for the next week for sneaking out! No leaving the house, no phone, and no computer. I snuck on to type this (thank goodness for laptops!). If my mom hears me typing (or if the twins hear me and snitch) I'm fried. Wish me luck!

Until next time,
Wendy (Angela Moira Darling) Stein XOXO

  1. Wow, Quinn looks exactly like this girl at school, Mia. I can't say I know her that well, though. I know she's training as a figure skater and also does ice and roller hockey.
Sorry to hear you've been grounded. Being grounded always sucks.
I never thought I'd have a best friend either until Harriet sat next to me in homeroom when I first started school. You can probably tell I'm not the likeliest person to have a bunch of friends -- I'm kind of a geek, ya know?? LOL Anyway, she started telling me everything about everyone at Adams and that was it. We've been hanging out ever since. And then Harriet introduced me to one of her friends, and now we're becoming friends too.

  2. Wow, how neat that you and Quinn live only a few streets apart! I have lots of online friends, but none live anywhere remotely close to me.

Quinn looks a lot like my friend Nathalie. Nathalie was my penpal before I met her, but by no means is she my neighbor...she's from Montréal, Québec!

Grounded? That's definitely not fun, but I guess it'll be worth it in the end, since you've got Quinn to play with now. But while you're stuck inside, perhaps you can finish a book or something?

  4. Hey Wendy, it's Julie! I love Quinn's necklace! You guys look great in the picture.

That is really freaky how you lived so close together! It looks you guys will be good friends. Too bad about you being grounded! That stinks!

I just wanted to add that I saw your sidebar comic, and I'm sure Avery-Marie will be little miss Sunshine in a few days, and will be esatic that her homely little comic is on your sidebar!

    Talk to you later!
